  5. If you are uncertain of what some patches in NAG-BUSTER do, please
  6. read the information in this file. There will normally be a one-
  7. word hint of what all patches do in the DOS and Windows menus inside
  8. NAG-BUSTER. But they may be a bit inconclusive. If you do not see any
  9. difference in your program after running NAG-BUSTER, then try
  10. to find out if there is a way to register your program from
  11. within your program or from the command line. If there is, then 
  12. it might just work after the patch has finished, since this may be 
  13. what NAG-BUSTER fixed!

  22. Blaster Master 6.1:
  23. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  24. I haven't found any time limitation in this version, although there
  25. was a 25 second record-limit in the previous version, and the intro
  26. window says that a 25 second record-limit exists. Let me know if you
  27. find any limitations. Meanwhile, use version 5.9. The patch for this
  28. version takes care of the limitation.

  31. CDS - Catalog Search 2.2:
  32. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  33. The patch will make registering of CDS.EXE possible. An undocumented
  34. feature in CDS lets the user register by loading CDS.EXE with
  35. the parameter /REGISTER. Before running the patch in NAG-BUSTER, the
  36. program will not be registered. You will not see a message telling
  37. you that CDS.KEY is created. But if you run NAG-BUSTER's patch
  38. first, and then load CDS /REGISTER (and enter some dummy values of
  39. your choise), then CDS will be like the registered program.
  40. In case you try to load CDS after running NAG-BUSTER, and notice the
  41. "Please register" text on the statusline - don't be confused! There 
  42. are no errors in the patch - I have removed the nag windows in CDS 
  43. anyway - but left the text on the statusline, since it disappears when
  44. you run CDS /REGISTER!

  47. PCopy v.9.3
  48. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  49. Apparently the patch does nothing since you won't notice any differences
  50. when running PCopy after patching. But look again! Start PCOPY with
  51. the parameter /RE (for REgister) and insert any values in the fields - 
  52. PCOPY will then be like the registered edition!

  55. PSearch 5.2b
  56. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  57. This program is written by the same people that wrote PCopy and has a
  58. similar inteface to the user. After the patch has been run, you must
  59. enter the Register-routine inside PSearch, but you are now able to
  60. enter whatever name and number you wish, thus emulating a registered 
  61. PSearch.

  64. Thedraw 5.00

  66. The asterisk in the DOS menu indicates that this 5.00 version is 
  67. probably a non-existing version, meaning somebody has hacked 
  68. an earlier version. The program is supported by NAG-BUSTER, though.

  71. The Shez programs (versions 8.0, 8.9, 9.5, 9.6):

  73. These programs will, after running NAG-BUSTER, also emulate the
  74. registered version. As you can see, the nag window is gone, the
  75. text "UNREGISTERED COPY" has changed to "REGISTERED COPY" and
  76. pressing # or / + M + D gives you the serial number. Exit and enter
  77. the configuration program SHEZCFG to change the text 
  78. "REGISTERED COPY" to your name or whatever.

  81. Telix 3.21 programs:
  82. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  83. The EXE= in parentheses indicates that I have seen two editions of
  84. 3.21 EXE-files with different filesizes. Since NAG-BUSTER uses the
  85. filesize to check for program validity, the filesize is used as a
  86. reference and must be exact. Hence, two different patches are written.

  89. The Blue Wave programs:
  90. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  91. Almost as with the Shez programs: after running NAG-BUSTER, you must
  92. enter BWAVE.EXE and live through the nag and delay once more. You can
  93. enter your name and a dummyr serial code value (BWAVE will accept any
  94. value you enter now!) and BWAVE will behave like the registered program!

  97. FFF - File and Directory finder:

  99. The configuration file FFFCFG.COM is patched, to let you enter 
  100. the registration code, thus turning FFF into a registered program.

  103. VGA-COPY PRO 3.2
  104. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  105. This program is strange itself, but the compression method is even more
  106. so. This program has been compressed with TINYPROG 3.8, but the byte
  107. pattern has been shifted forward slightly to confuse decompressors 
  108. (such as COMPBUST.EXE). Then a bogus PKLITE header has been entered
  109. into the file to confuse decompressors even more.
  110. I've found out that the author of VGA-COPY PRO has written a program
  111. called PKTINY that does this trick. The code entered into the file
  112. by PKTINY modifies itself to be able to decompress the program to
  113. memory once loaded. Neat, but not too clever, though.
  114. NAG-BUSTER and COMPBUST can go around this trick by first patching
  115. the file, then decompress it and finally patch it again. Therefore, 
  116. this patch would seem a bit strange at first, but it works OK.

  118. The author of VGACOPY has obiously put a lot of effort in trying to confuse
  119. compression reckognizers. I had to add another procedure to reckognize 
  120. programs compressed this way, but c'est la vie! I suppose there will be
  121. a lot of this in the future...

  123. (If the author of VGA-Copy Pro reads this, I use this opportunity to point 
  124. out the fact that computers first and foremost were invented to help us 
  125. become more productive both in our jobs and in everyday life. With this in 
  126. mind, VGA-Copy Pro is a huge set-back in progress. Who wants (and needs)
  127. sampled yells when they exit a program and quiet schocking ding-dongs 
  128. now and again along with the extensive graphic interface in DOS? And why 
  129. on earth did you put so much effort into but a copy program anyway? There 
  130. are hundreds of copy programs with similar features already on the market!)

  133. ZIP'R Pro for DOS 1.25

  135. The package consists of two different programs (.EXE-files), but they
  136. are used together. So when you patch ZIPRPRO.EXE, the exit screen (nag)
  137. will still be present, because it resides in ZIFPRO.EXE. Run the patch
  138. on both .EXE-files to complete the nag-removal.

  147. Complete Works 1.6 (Lite):

  150. NAG-BUSTER won't regain time used in Complete Works, it will only halt
  151. the time routine. So if you have used up all your time and Complete 
  152. Works won't save messages or print - NAG-BUSTER will not change this. 
  153. You have to start out with a fresh edition of COMPLETE.EXE. Copy it
  154. from you backup diskette and patch this edition - not the used one!

  157. IconMaster 1.2 c/d.

  159. Both the slash in the version number and the asterisk in the Windows
  160. menu indicates that the author of IconMaster uses both c and d inside
  161. the program, so I'm not sure what he means...

  164. Paint Shop v.1.31 (by R. Voit)
  165. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  166. The program name, version number and .EXE-filesize is identical to
  167. Paint Shop 1.31 by JASC, Inc., so one of them is probably a hacked
  168. edition of the other. I think you should go for the JASC-version.

  171. Unicom v.3.0d
  172. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  173. The patch for this program fixes the two (actually three) intro 
  174. screens + one of these which is shown on exit, too. In addition, 
  175. the patch removes the apparent 15 minute online limit, plus a lot
  176. of text popping up in the header and on the status line begging you
  177. to order and pay (these messages seem to pop up randomly). 
  178. Let me know if this patch isn't complete!

  181. Winzip 5.0
  182. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
  183. Earlier, an error occured in Winzip 5.0 after the patch saying that
  184. the program was damaged. I thought this was fixed, and it was when
  185. it comes to the routine for unpacking .ZIP-files. I never tested
  186. the patched program on .ARJ (I rearly meet this format). The
  187. error message was still there when .ARJ-files were to be processed.
  188. This has been taken care of now, but I'm not sure about other
  189. compressed formats (like .LZH and .ZOO for instance) as these formats
  190. aren't tested.
